We would like to welcome you to our life in the mountains of North Georgia, primarily Hiawassee. We want to share our way of life with you through our daily routines, our cooking, our critters, our hearts and our the merchandise that is designed by our kids and proudly displays the MOUNTAIN WAY of Life.
When the schools and our country shut down, we had to find a new way of life. Our every day routines had been turned upside down and our lives felt chaotic. We decided it was time for us to get to the basics and figure out what we love and DO THAT. So here we are. We love the mountains, the clear waters and our animals, whether wildlife or domestic. We try to avoid urban areas and concrete. We want a simpler life; a life we love, doing what we love. So we invite you to follow us on our journey as we grow in our areas of interest such as learning about our local heritage and culture, our geography as well as tending our little flock of chickens and maybe adding more animals like goats and rabbits. Ashtyn's music and song writing, or Paleigh's archery, horsemanship, and crafting or Kaimen's whittling and fishing or sharing his fascination with all types of tools are just a few of the topics the children want to share with you. In addition to regular studies, these kids are learning valuable lessons in how to identify plants of medicinal benefit, fish, hunt, and prepare their own food. They also know how to grow their own vegetables from seed or starter and are learning how to identify and forage edible and useful plants, berries, nuts and seeds. Come watch us grow our dreams!
Since we love our chickens so much, we love taking pictures of them. The children decided we need to "dress" them up for their pics. So check out some of the nifty bow ties and saddle frocks we have for our chickens and some other neat crafts.
Getting back to a simpler way of life has helped us realize the importance of whole foods and on that journey we discovered the benefits of fermenting. Check out our fermented goods available on our Etsy store.
The children have raised this flock of 7 from day old chics. The names of their chickens are Crow, Sonny, Elvis, Diva, Donnie, Peter and Crown. Check out our LIVE FEED for tons of fun with our beautiful little flock of chickens that are just too sweet!
Wildlife abounds here in North Georgia. We have an abundance of white tail deer, black bear, turkeys, and even this beautiful rosy maple moth paid us a visit this spring.
The natural beauty alone is enough to make anyone want to get outdoors and explore here in the Georgia Mountains. These Mountains hold great treasures, secrets and stories that are just waiting to be shared from the legends of the "little people" that lived here to foraging for food within our natural forests. These mountains call to our soul; the ones who were born here and the ones who have found their true home here.
